Free School Meal Entitlement
Your child may be entitled to receive free school meals if you are entitled to receive one of the following:
• Income Support
• Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
• Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
• Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
• The Guarantee element of State Pension Credit
• Child Tax Credit, provided you are not entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual income that does not exceed £16,190.
• Universal Credit (Provided you have an annual net earned income of no more than £7,400)
From September 2026, all children in households receiving Universal Credit will become eligible for Free School Meals (Expanded Free School Meals) irrespective of the earnings threshold. The current earnings threshold (approximately £7,400 per year) will remain in place for additional benefits such as Pupil Premium eligibility (Targeted Free School Meals).
We therefore strongly encourage all families to:
· Apply for FSM now if you are currently receiving Universal Credit, even if you have not been eligible before.
· Reapply ahead of September 2026 if your child currently receives FSM.
You can apply via https://fsm.lgfl.net/ and enter a few personal details to find out your eligibility in minutes. Alternatively, contact the school office, where we will support you confidentially.
Eligibility for Free School Meal entitlement also provides eligibilty for Pupil Premium, a Government grant paid to school for the purpose of raising attainment levels and closing the gap for disadvantaged children. Further information on Pupil Premium can be found under our 'School Information' dropdown.
Key Stage One children should also claim Free School Meal entitlement even though they receive Universal Infant free School meals.
