Crowton C.E. Primary School is a fully inclusive school which ensures that all pupils achieve their potential; personally, emotionally and academically, regardless of their gender, ethnicity, social background, religion, sexual identity, physical ability or educational need. The school has experience of working with a range of conditions including Speech and Language, Social Communication, Cognition and Learning, Social and Emotional and Mental Health. We believe every child has the right to fulfil our school motto of Aspire, Discover, Flourish.

Schools are required to publish and keep under review information about services they expect to be available for children and young people with special educational needs (SEN) aged 0-25. The LA refers to this as the Local Offer. The intention of the Local Offer is to improve choice and transparency for families. It will also be an important resource for parents in understanding the range of services and provision in the local area.   Please see the relevant documents below which detail how we support SEND pupils in our school.

Crowton C.E. Primary School works collaborativley with Cheshire West and Chester (CWAC) Local Authority SEND Team.

What is a special need?

In England, the government defines special needs as: "A child has special educational needs if they have a learning problem or disability that make it more difficult for them to learn than most children their age. They may have problems with schoolwork, communication or behaviour."

'Special educational needs' is a legal definition and refers to children with learning problems or disabilities that make it harder for them to learn than most children the same age.

There are four main areas of Special Educational Need:

  1. Cognition and Learning

  2. Communication and Interaction

  3. Social Emotional Mental Health

  4. Physical and Sensory

What is the SEND Code of Practice?

The SEND code of practice is a statutory code containing: details of legal requirements that you must follow without exception and statutory guidance that you must follow by law unless there’s a good reason not to. It explains the duties of local authorities, health bodies, schools and colleges to provide for those with special educational needs under part 3 of the Children and Families Act 2014.
