Date: 9th Oct 2015 @ 8:38am

On Thursday 9th October it was National Poetry Day. Class 4 used their Literacy work to create a poem.

Example of our Poems.

Gnarled branches stretched,

A forest of pine trees smiled,

The tranquil pond,

A slight ripple breaks.

Gnarled branches stretched,

Cool autumn breeze,

Silence,

Through the reeds.

Gnarled branches stretched,

The watery yellow, pink and violet hues,

As the moon slowly rose,

Peaceful.

World Book Day

Date: 6th Mar 2015 @ 3:32pm

The pupils at Crowton Primary School had a fantastic time celebrating World Book day 2015 on 6th March. The children came to school dressed up as their favourite book character; there were some really great costumes and ideas!

Rachael Lindsay, a children's author, visited our school and ran literacy workshops for all classes. The children met the troll's from her stories and learned about their characters. They explored the story of 'Warrior Troll' and imagined the contents of the casket. Rachael spoke to the children about creating characters and settings for stories.

KS2 children learned about the writing process and planning of a book. They collected a' villainous word bank' to help them describe a villains appearance, movement and speech.

Class 4 Woodland Walk

Date: 2nd Mar 2015 @ 12:17pm

Report By Beatrice, Year 5

On Friday 27th of February 2015, Class 4 went on a walk down to the woods at the end of Ainsworth Lane. We went for this walk because in Literacy we have been reading a book called 'Stolen Secrets' by Rachael Lindsay. When we went out we were looking for possible troll houses, or actual trolls. Sean ( a boy in our class) found a tree stump, which from a distance looked like an actual troll!

Trudging through the muddy, boggy path, some people got quite muddy, including me! As we were travelling through the woods a small, long fast-flowing river guided us through the endless tangle of branches and leaves. Peering around the woods,  our class pictured a scene where Finnr's nest hung suspended in the air.

A sweet chirping sound echoes through the forests, there were birds everywhere!

'Danger at St. Magnets' Kinetic Theatre Workshop

Date: 29th Jan 2015 @ 9:21am

On Wednesday 28th January all the children took  part in a fun and engaging, inter-active science show performed by the Kinetic Theatre company. The show, entitled, Danger at St. Magnets,’ focused on the  Classification of materials, magnetism and heat sections of the National Curriculum for Science. During the show the children were encouraged to recognise a variety of materials and  sort them into groups of natural and man-made. Properties (appearances, hardness, magnetic, non-magnetic), reasons for selecting materials and the concept of heat travelling from hot to cold was demonstrated throughout. KS2 children learned about thermal expansion with a demonstration of the bimetallic strip.Magnetism was also illustrated with an electromagnet.

The story of the show : set in 1946, in the staff room of St Magnet's Primary School in the sleepy village of Upper Copperbottom. the distinguished headmaster has been asked to judge the village marrow competition when the school cook notices the boiler is on the blink. Could there be a fault with the bimetallic strip in the thermostat? Or are any other materials involved? Furthermore why is there a magnet in the stockroom? Who has stolen the prized silver trophy? and what is the music teacher doing in the village church belfry? It transpires that treachery is afoot and the saboteur wants to destroy the school! If the boiler isn't fixed quickly there is a serious threat of explosion!

All of the children competed with enthusiasm and displayed excellent sportsmanship.

Crowton Garden Fete and Opening of Butterfly Garden

Date: 15th Jul 2014 @ 12:39pm

Once again the Crowton Garden Fete proved to be a huge success , enjoyed by everyone who attended. The rain kept at bay and the sun shone brightly as the Revd. Gill Stanning was invited to officially open the fete.   Everyone gathered to see the retiring  Rose Queen and her retinue  complete their final duties and our new Rose Queen , Chloe Wakeford, accompanied by her  young Attendants was ceremoniously crowned.   The Rose Queen is traditionally the oldest and longest serving girl at Crowton School and her attendants are the youngest girls and boys in the school.

As is customary at the Fete The children of Crowton Primary School entertained the crowds with their medley of 'Songs from the Films'. The audience sang and clapped along as the children each took their turn to perform in the arena. And, to the delight of everyone, there were few surprise performances from the staff who appeared dressed as Chewbacca (Star Wars), the Seven Dwarves, Captain Hook and the Wicked Witch of the West!

Fun was had by all at the various stalls and activities taking place on the school field throughout the afternoon.

The fete this year was preceded by a special school and community event- the grand opening of the Butterfly Garden. The garden, a newly refurbished play area for the children, has been a project close to the hearts of the governors, staff and children of Crowton Primary School. It was inspired by, and is dedicated to a pupil of our school, Skye Higgins, who very sadly lost her fight against leukaemia last year, aged 5 years old . To mark the opening, the children of the school each released a balloon in her memory.
