We Achieve We Believe We Care

Chaffinches KS2 2023 - 2024

Miss Porter

Welcome to Chaffinches

The home of Years 3, 4, 5 and 6.

Hello and welcome to our class page! This is where you will find all the information you need to know about what we will be doing in Key Stage 2 this half term.

In English, we are using the book Radiant Child: The Story of Young Artisit Jean-Michel Basquiat, a picture book biography by Javaka Steptoe, which uses a style similar to Jean-Michel Basquiat's, the book tells the story of his childhoold and early career. We will be using the text to help us produce our own information texts.

For Maths, we use White Rose Maths and follow the objectives for each year group. In class we also use TTRockstars to help us to keep our times tables skills embedded as this helps us in all areas of Maths. Knowing our times tables up to 12 x 12 is key and pupils are encourgaed to practice their recall of these at home as well.

Spellings will be quizzed and new spellings given out on Mondays (Y3/Y4) Tuesdays (Y5/Y6). You can find the overview for the half-term below.

We are using Rising Stars Reading Planet Scheme this half term for our Bookbanded books, pupils will be given new books on Mondays (Y3/Y4) and Tuesdays (Y5/Y6), pupils be will then have the opportunity to take a low state quiz style comprehension the following week where they can also change their book. Pupils should read the book over the course of the week both independently and with an adult aloud, using the questions on the inside to help with their retrival and understanding of the text.

PE will be on Wednesday with George Waring, our Sports Coach. Please ensure pupils are wearing their PE kit on a Wednesday. As we move into the warmer weather and sunnier months (hopefully) please ensure pupils are prepared for spending time outdoors (sun hat, sun cream and water bottles).

Forest School Chaf.jpg

Forest School for this half term will be on a Thursday morning, pupils should dress appropriately for the weather e.g. waterproof coats, sun hats...

Home learning tasks will be given out on Fridays and it is expected they are returned to school by the following Wednesday unless otherwise stated e.g. longer research tasks and presentations. Home learning tasks are planned to be an opportunity for pupils to practice skills they have covered recently at school.

In addition to weekly learning it is vital that pupils continue to read to themselves and adults at home while logging any reading on Boom Reader.

School reading books and free reading books are available at school or pupils are free to choose their own age appropriate books to read.

Thank you,

Miss Porter
