Crowton Football Team in Winning Form

Date: 24th Oct 2014 @ 3:17pm

Crowton PrimarySchool  Football Team enjoyed a great match against Great Budworth on Thursday evening.

In a game that saw 15 players take part in a match of 4 quarters,  the team ran out 7-6 winners, although no one really took any notice of the score, as they delighted in seeing some fantastic sporting behaviour.

The match was played 6 -a-side due to Great Budworth's numbers, so the team was changed on a regular basis with all players given lots of opportunities to show their skills and enjoy some excellent team play. Joe  started as goalkeeper but tried his hand at defender too with Riley, Matty and Ellie A also performing well between the posts!

The team even had the chance to play a period as an all girls team (apart from Joe who took up his place in goal) and never conceded a goal against a strong team. Pamela,  Ellie T, Ellie A, Lily J and Lily F doing an excellent job during that passage of play.

Ben scored a fabulous hat trick in the game, but it was Louie who scored ' goal of the day' with a superb header!  Bobby was solid all over the pitch, and Alex was excellent in midfield with some surging runs.  Beau, Jude and Frank defended soundly throughout and were strong at the back.

We look forward to the return game, which we hope will be as evenly contested next half term.

Roberts Bakery Visit Class 1

Date: 22nd Oct 2014 @ 8:16pm

Keith from Roberts Bakery came to visit Class 1. He showed us a film about the bakery and how they make bread. We never knew that robots helped! We were bakers for the session and wore our special hats as we decorated gingerbread men. We took a gingerbread man home and made one each to be sold at the Macmillan coffee morning in school on Friday 24th October.

Photos will follow.

With effect from September we will also be using ParentMail, a text message service, to communicate urgent/emergency information e.g. school closures, cancelled clubs etc. and reminders to our parents.

Please be assured that ParentMail is registered with the Information Commissioner and guarantees that all information you provide will be kept private and will not be passed on to any other organisation.

Skye's the Limit

Date: 6th Dec 2013 @ 2:30pm

Last weekend Acton Bridge Dad’s Group completed the Liverpool Santa Dash. The group, which consists of Paul Higgins, Dan Berrisford, Trevor Cording, Rik Deakin, Mark Latimer, Stuard Lea Swain and Mark Thomas took to the streets of Liverpool to complete the 5km run in memory of Skye and to raise funds for Alder Hey Hospital.

You can help Acton Bridge raise money for this great cause by donating directly to their fundraising page -

http://www.justgiving.com/skyes-the-limit/?utm_source=Sharethis&utm_medium=fundraisingpage&utm_content=skyes-the-limit&utm_campaign=pfp-email.

JustGiving sends your donation straight to Alder Hey Children's Charity and automatically reclaims Gift Aid if you are a UK taxpayer, so your donation is worth even more.

Thank you for your support!

We would like to share with you the Acton Bridge Dad’s Group Story

2nd December update:

What a great day in Liverpool yesterday! Up to 10,000 Santas took part in the Dash through Liverpool including the gang of 7 from Acton Bridge.

We were spurred on by our crazy band of supporters who wielded the biggest and best banner in town. Five of Acton Bridge's finest weaved their way through the masses of slow moving Santas, skipping around the debris of discarded Santa beards and belts, resisting the charms of a 10am pint in the Vauxhall pub, bravely avoiding the distraction of a bare footed (male) runner wearing just a thong and arrived at the finish line in a new village record time of 33 minutes. Bringing up the rear were the injured duo of former professional tennis star Paul Higgins, ably assisted by the very overweight and unfit triathlete Mark Latimer and recently co-opted member of the team Erika.

At the time of writing we have raised more than double our target of £1,000 in aid of the Alder Hey Children's Charity and wish to thank everybody who has been kind enough to donate their hard earned money to this wonderful cause. Your support and encouragement has been appreciated by all of us and made an enjoyable event even more worthwhile. Thank you!!

A group of Dads from Acton Bridge in Cheshire are running the Liverpool Santa Dash on Sunday December 1st. In October, on one of the very rare occasions we Dads get to drink beer together in our local pub, the Hazel Pear, we talked about raising some money as a way of giving something back to Alder Hey Hospital in Liverpool. Many people have been touched by the generosity of their care and we have been affected close to home this last year as one of our own, Skye Higgins and her family, spent so much time there. Below, Skye's father, Paul, tells Skye's story:

Skye lived with love, fun and courage from April 30th 2008 to August 31 2013.

Skye was diagnosed in May 2012 with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia; notwithstanding the challenges of her treatment she was a happy, loving, polite little girl throughout.

Despite early knowledge that we would lose Skye the team at Alder Hey in Liverpool worked tirelessly to ensure she survived for long enough to meet her new born sister Clover who was born on June 25th this year. During the brief time that they knew each other Skye and Clover forged the beginnings of a relationship before Skye sadly passed away, without pain or fear and surrounded by the love of her parents who were with her when she left us.

Skye is deeply missed by us all, not least by her three sisters Eve, Willow and Clover.

Skye touched all who knew her and we had her for longer than we had expected thanks to the magnificent work of the team at Alder Hey..... they gave us one more summer with our beautiful little girl. Who can put a price on that ?

In the interests of funding further research to help children like Skye survive, please give what you can.

Skye’s the limit.
